On June 22, 2011, Branscum Construction Company, Inc. became the first and only Commercial General Contractor in the state of Kentucky to achieve and to be recognized as a CHASE Blue Level member of the AGC of Kentucky and the Kentucky Labor Cabinet CHASE partnership program.
Realizing this remarkable accomplishment meant meeting several stringent requirements laid out by the Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) Partnership program. Wall-to-wall site safety inspections were conducted at various job sites. The addresses of all current projects were submitted to AGC officials who forwarded them to the Kentucky Labor Cabinet. Each project was subject to site safety inspections by seasoned veteran inspectors. AGC of KY chose to conduct safety inspections at the Garrard County Judicial Center, Sunrise Manor Long-Term Care facility, and Whitley County Freshman Academy. All projects chosen for inspection were approximately 70% complete with as many as forty tradesmen on site representing up to eight trade divisions. Each project visited passed the thorough inspection process.
The final steps toward being awarded the CHASE Blue Level status were undergoing on-site inspections conducted by safety officials with the Kentucky Labor Cabinet. CPP Administrator, Mr. Bill Carey, and the partnership staff made final inspections at the Garrard Judicial site. The site was found to be worthy of positive recognition and Branscum Construction Company's safety program and safety record had achieved the coveted Blue Level status.
The AGC of Kentucky and the Kentucky Labor Cabinet, Occupational Safety and Health Program (KY-OSH) equally agree upon the importance of providing a safe and healthy work environment in the construction industry. This realization brought forth the CHASE partnership program to achieve construction workplace safety through shared strategies and objectives. The Construction Health and Safety Excellence (CHASE) partnership is a merger between AGC of Ky and OSHA. This program was implemented in January 2001 with 3 levels of excellence, Red, White, and Blue. Numerous construction companies are represented as members of the CHASE Program, all of whom are striving to reach the Blue Level Status.
